How to Study for the Australian Citizenship Test
The test only asks about the first four parts of Our Common Bond, so you know exactly what to learn. A clear plan and short daily sessions work better than cramming.
Put the tips into practice
These tips only work if you apply them consistently. The app makes it simple: spaced repetition, a Values Drill and practice exams in the real format. 15 minutes a day is enough.
Get early access1. Read the four testable parts
Start with the official booklet, available in English and 40 community languages. Our study guide summarises each topic with the key facts.
2. Give the values questions extra time
All 5 values questions must be correct. Read Part 4 twice and practise until you answer every values question correctly, every time.
3. Practise in the real format
Do timed practice exams: 20 questions in 45 minutes. Home Affairs also offers an official practice test that looks and feels like the real one.
4. Repeat what you get wrong
Spaced repetition brings back the questions you missed until you know them. 15 minutes a day over a few weeks is more effective than one long session.
5. Learn in English
The test is in English only. If English is not your first language, use translations to understand a topic, then practise the questions in English. The official Our Common Bond podcast can help with listening.
